Hollywood corrupts ...

Just about anything and anyone who gets to close. Need proof?

How about this over at HollywoodJesus.com: Digging through Grindhouse, an "homage" by two of the biggest narcissist in Hollywood (and that's saying a lot) to ultra-violent, sex filled exploitation movies of the 60s and 70s, for "Spiritual Connections".

I become more and more suspicious, as time goes by, of Christians who want to proselytize Hollywood. At what point do you tell yourself that no matter how much Chlorox you bring with you, the sewer will always be a sewer?

By all means, I think Christians should not be afraid to work in the entertainment industry. They should bring as much light as they can into what appears to be a perpetually dark Entertainment-Industrial Complex. Sometimes, as Daniel made it perfectly clear, you have to into the Lion's Den to get your point across.

But don't try to tell us that there is anything, at all, spiritually redeeming about something like "Grindhouse". It was made to recreate the experience of a couple of adult adolescents who get off on watching sex and violence. What in the world is spiritually connecting about that?

Tolkien gets athiests

I finally got around to reading Tolkien's wonderful poem, "Mythopoeia". It is something I will come back to again and again and again. There are so many great gems contained within its 10 stanzas.

Not the least of which is its opening, which tells me that Tolkien understood athiesm better than the athiests.

You look at trees and label them just so,
(for trees are 'trees,' and growing is 'to grow');
you walk the earth and tread with solemn pace
one of the many minor globes of Space:
a star's a star, some matter in a ball
compelled to courses mathematical
amid the regimented, cold, Inane,
where destined atoms are each moment slain.

Not much imagination among those folks, eh?

What to read?

Browsing the shelves at a nearby bookstore, I came across a title by John Shirley. It was a book titled Demons. What drew me to the work was the blurb, on the back cover, by Tim Powers (the edition linked here, does not include said blurb).

Furthermore, I was fascinated by the book's premise:

"Nightmarish demons terrorize the world ...  A young artist from San Francisco witnesses the demons' arrival and the world's response -- panic, denial, and even cooperation in the slaughter. He joins a group of people who believe that human action brought the demons into the world and that the power of human consciousness--awareness of one's true self--is the only defense against them. Then nine years later, in the face of a new threat, the group must overcome conspiracy and the world's disbelief to battle demons once again."

While "Demons" may have been written some years ago, this premise certainly seems to have some relevance to the world we face today. A great many people today deny Evil's existence especially as it takes form in Islamo-fascism. An overwhelming majority of these 'Evil deniers' live in San Francisco.

I searched, via the 'net, my local library's stacks and discovered a copy on their shelves. Great, I thought. I'll pop in and pick it up. I kept browsing the 'net when I learned that some of the work in Shirley's short story collection "Really, Really, Really, Really Weird Stories" first appeared online. Maybe I can sample some of his work.

Then I found his blog. Needless to say, my interest in Shirley's work took a definite downturn.

Here are a few sample headlines:

"DID KARL ROVE AND ATTORNEY GENERAL STOP PROSECUTION OF A PEDOPHILE RING FOR POLITICAL REASONS?"

"UNDERCOVER AGENTS UNDERMINE ANTIWAR MOVEMENT?"

"GOP CONGRESSMEN IGNORANT OF CONSTITUTIONAL LAW?"

"BUSH'S IRAQ GOVT ENDORSES MASS MURDER OF GAYS"

(Notice the weaselly use of question marks in the headlines above. He isn't actually asserting this nonsense. He's just raising "questions".)

Then there was this obscene rant on Population Control:

"The reason to control and radically reduce the number of human beings on the planet is quite different. The reason is human beings; is nature itself. And it's the odds. If you have 6 billion people you have 6 billion imponderables. You have 6 billion behavioral X factors.

"The human race, implicitly or explicitly, has an overall goal: harmony. An end to wars, an end to brutal exploitation, the creation of a thriving, sustainable society that doesn't constantly undermine its place in the biosphere.

"What are the chances of doing it with ten billion people--whom we expect by the end of the century, latest? Ten billion people of ten billion selfish points of view, thousands of conflicting philosophies, many hundreds (at least) religions...billions of agendas. We'll have ten billion members of a race prone to succumbing to cults of personality; ten billion members of a race that followed Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot. We're capable of anything...anything! And at ten billion, 12 billion, 15 billion strong...the odds that we'll reach our goal, build an intelligent, sustainable society, are, to say the least...long! At ten billion strong we've got far more mentally deficient, ignorant, brain damaged, genetically compromised (inherited mental illness, etc) people than ever before...and they'll have children."

Billions of people decrease the likelihood that everyone will go along with the "One True" agenda. Therefore we must control population growth. In fact, population should be reduced to a more manageable size.

Shirley has no idea how in sync his thinking is with the likes of Stalin, Mao and Hitler. However, taking shots at Shirley politics (and obscene views on population control) really isn't the reason for this post. That's nothing more than shooting fish in a barrel.

John Shirley is a perfect example of the Leftist artist. I am quite certain that Shirley never gave it a moments thought that his Leftist ranting might affect his sales or readership. Leftists believe that everyone thinks like they do because they don't actually know any conservatives. Their conversations are only with other Leftists. Their news comes only from Leftist sources. The films and television they watch feed back to them their own biases. They are surrounded, 24/7, by people and information that differs not one whit from their own preconceived notions. Therefore, when they become artists they produce for only audience they know.

With this in mind, writers, and other entertainers, are not going to think that producing bile stating how we should control population because billions of people represent "billions of agendas" and increase the likelihood of "far more mentally deficient, ignorant, brain damaged, genetically compromised ... people than ever before...and they'll have children" is not going to insult anyone who reads their work. At least it isn't going to insult the "smart" people, who should be reading their work.

Despite the sense I get from his blog, that John Shirley thinks I am "mentally deficient, ignorant, brain damaged [and] genetically compromised", and that he longs for "some sort of "Judgment Day with justice" that would allow the human race to start over—without, ah, certain people? [translation: Neocons and the GOP]" I'll read his work. If nothing else it will give me yet another glimpse into the Leftist brain's addled nature.

The American Civil War will no longer be taught

Out of concern for the reaction of Southerners states are being urged to stop teaching the American Civil War at any point in grades K - 12.

"We just don't think it is necessary to contradict what a current or former resident of Virginia or Georgia, or some other state that supported the seperatist movement in America, might be hearing at home," stated one education bureaucrat who wished to remain nameless.

Some schools are going so far as to eliminate from their curriculum any discussion of Slavery, out of concern for the "inordinate amount of stress and anxiety" it may cause among some whites. In many schools history classes are now being replaced with the study of Feng Shui, herbalism and non-religiously inspired meditation.

One principal in a San Francisco area High School noted, "Now that we've eliminated history from our coursework, we find many more students interested in fighting global warming and stopping all wars through peaceful non-violence and mass meditation. Our students are so much better off now then when they were bogged down with useless information about wars and other kinds of yucky violence."

...

Hey, if British government run schools are going to stop teaching the Holocaust to avoid offending Muslims, shouldn't we do the same with our controversial subjects. Perhaps we should stop talking about the internment
of some Japanese, Italians and Germans during WWII.

Wouldn't want to offend anyone now would we?

Rosie O'Donnell - Antisemite's Apologist

Rosie O'Donnell is an apologist for antisemites.

Rosie O'Donnell hates America more than Iran's antisemitic President and Mullahs who have publicly vowed to wipe Israel and America off the face of earth. She takes the side of Iran's antisemitic regime rather than that of England's Labor Government.

Can someone please explain to me how an apologist for antisemites, believer in 9/11 conspiracy theories and propagator of the lie that there is no good and evil can have a major show on a national television network.

As Dennis Prager stated in his show on Friday, March 30th, in which you can hear the rantings of this insane woman and the applause of The View's sycophantic audience, "Have you no shame?"

Kalo Mina

Which is Greek, meaning "Happy Month" and is said among Greeks at the beginning of each month. Much as one might wish co-workers a Happy Monday, I say to all those who may happen by my little blog --- Kalo Mina.

The Diplomacy Iran deserves

Is it only a matter of time before Western Civilization falls before the Islamo-fascist mullahs? I know this is what the Islamo-Nazis throughout the Middle East believe. Based on the reaction to Iran's act of war against Britian, that certainly seems to be the case.

I am thoroughly disgusted by reactions such as this, reported by the AP, from the British :
Blair's official spokesman said Britain wanted to resolve the crisis quickly and without having a "confrontation over this."

"We are not seeking to put Iran in a corner. We are simply saying, 'Please release the personnelwho should not have been seized in the first place,'" said the spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with government policy.
I'm sure the theocratic Islamo-Nazis are quaking in their Jack Boots at that request.

If ever there was a moment for 90,000 tons of diplomacy this is it.

Germany is lost

My jaw hit the desk as I read, over at The New Criterion's blog Armavirumque, about a German divorce case. It concerns a a presumably Muslim Moroccan woman divorcing her presumably Muslim Moroccan husband who was physically abusing her. The German court decision actually cited the Koran as a source to NOT allow an expedited divorce.

Der Speigel reports:

"A 26-year-old mother of two wanted to free herself from what had become a miserable and abusive marriage. The police had even been called to their apartment to separate the two -- both of Moroccan origin -- after her husband got violent in May 2006. The husband was forced to move out, but the terror continued: Even after they separated, the spurned husband threatened to kill his wife.

"A quick divorce seemed to be the only solution -- the 26-year-old was unwilling to wait the year between separation and divorce mandated by German law. ... Her lawyer, Barbara Becker-Rojczyk agreed and she filed for immediate divorce with a Frankfurt court last October. They both felt that the domestic violence and death threats easily fulfilled the "hardship" criteria necessary for such an accelerated split.

"The judge rejected the application for a speedy divorce by referring to a passage in the Koran ... "The exercise of the right to castigate does not fulfill the hardship criteria as defined by Paragraph 1565 (of German federal law)," the daily Frankfurter Rundschau quoted the judge's letter as saying. It must be taken into account, the judge argued, that both man and wife have Moroccan backgrounds."

The New Criterion gets it exactly right, as it cites the British "colonialist" response to the barbaric Indian practice, at the time, of burning wives alive when with the body of the deceased husband. As Sir Charles Napier wrote,

"You say that it is your custom to burn widows. Very well. We also have a custom: when men burn a woman alive, we tie a rope around their necks and we hang them. Build your funeral pyre; beside it, my carpenters will build a gallows. You may follow your custom. And then we will follow ours."

It's bad enough that so many Muslims are adamant in living as if this were the 6th Century. It's worse when that is encouraged by a so called enlightened judiciary in "modern" Europe.

Batman vs. Satan

A battle of Good versus Evil. Right?

Well, not exactly.

You gottta love this description from DC's preview page:
"The Son of the Bat [Damian Wayne] meets the Prince of Darkness and the stage is set for the ultimate battle between evil and moral ambiguity. Can Damian make peace with his heritage to save the world? " [emphasis added]
Can someone please explain to me what "moral abmiguity" is doing in a fight against the Prince of Darkness. And if the Son of the Bat wins, what, pray tell, is he fighting for?

Maybe if he just understood Satan's motivation they could engage in dialog and come to a peaceful resolution of their differences.

Oh, brother. I can hardly wait for this one.

The Last Real Man in Comics

I just discovered "The Last Real Man in Comics".

His name is Beau Smith and his bio's opening paragraph is a hoot:

"
My name is Beau Smith.  Others have tagged me as 'The Last Real Man In Comics'. That comes from a time when there was nothing but poodle skirt wearin', crybaby , hobbit lovin' liberals and former dope dealin' hippies in comics . I was one of the few if not only men in comics that liked and participated in sports, enjoyed grade B-Action movies and had done time in jail."

Scroll down the page linked above. Imagine some comic writer or artist depicting today's Islamofascists the way the Japanese were depicted in the 1945 issue Startling Comics with "The Fighting Yank, Super-Patriot" and "Pyroman".

There is also a great piece on the death of Captain America by Graham Nolan, titled "
THE DEATH OF CAPTAIN AMERICA AND THE RISE OF THE SOUPER-HERO". Nolan understands the problems today's comics have:

"One of the greatest story arcs ever done in comics, IMHO, is the MANGOG saga which appeared in MIGHTY THOR 154-157. A virtual, how-to, on pacing a great dramatic action story. I won’t go into the story for those who haven’t read it, but there is a great scene in which Thor, trying to find Loki runs into a bunch of hippies. They start to bust on Thor because he’s such a “square”, and they don’t care about his needs because they “tuned in, and dropped out”. Thor, being the noble character he is, sympathizes with their free spirt and innocence (ie: ignorance) and gently reprimands them for being misguided. “’Tis not by dropping out-but by plunging into the maelstrom of life---that thou shall find thy wisdom”! He goes on to tell them there are battles to be won and causes to espouse, and that they can “drop out” when death is at their door but as long as life endures they must live to the fullest…”Else, thou be unworthy of the title---MAN!

"Can you imagine this scene in ANY mainstream comic today?"

The answer to that would an emphatic No.

300 Box Office

So where will 300 make its money? Don't look in Europe.

300 opened in both Europian and American markets. During its first week it made over $127 Million in America, while bringing in a paltry $6.5 Million in Europe.

Granted it is still waiting to open in many countries. My guess, however, is that 300 will not go over well among Europeans.

Because, as David Kahane, at NationalReview.com puts it so well, 'You’d think 300 was a metaphor for something…"

Yet another Hitchcock remake

Another classic Hitchcock thriller has been remade. It's been done to Psycho and it is being done to The Birds. Now Rear Window has been turned into a high octane teen horror film titled Disturbia.

Suburbia ... Disturbia ... Oooohh ... I get it. My ... how utterly unoriginal ... Yawn.

Dr. Strange takes on Big Pharma

To ensure that every corporate entity was vilified within the four color pages of the comic books, Marvel's writer Brian K. Vaughn puts Dr. Strange up against Big Pharmaceutical in the five issue mini-series titled "The Oath". Fighting off evil sorcerers and etheric demons isn't enough. The Master of the Mystic Arts really needs to bring down the monsters within Big Pharma.

The storyline involves Dr. Strange on a mystic journey to find a cure for his dying servant. You read that right. The politically correct Sorcerer Supreme has an Asian manservant, named Wong, who happens to be dying of cancer. Early in the five issue series Marvel makes it clear that Stephen Strange and Wong do not see their relationship as one of Master and Servant. No good Liberal would actually have a Servant. Right?!?

So Wong is dying of cancer and Dr. Strange will do anything to cure his ailing "sidekick" so he sets out in an mystic journey in the Astral Planes. He fights demons, posing as his worst enemies, and is successful in bringing back a potion that will cure every known disease afflicting humanity. No more common cold. No more flu. And most importantly, for the story at least, no more cancer.

Well, now, the white "Overlords" running "Timely Pharmacopeial" just can't have that can they. This wonder cure would seriously eat into the corporate giant's profits, and that is what Big Pharma cares about most.. Isn't it? So Dr. Nicodemus West, on behalf of "Timely" sets out to ensure that people continue to suffer from head colds. Because, of course, everyone knows that Big Pharma only cares about profits. It's not like they are actually trying to find cures for the worst ailments afflicting mankind. And, by the way, I'm not making up the white Overlords bit. The board of directors of Timely are referred to as "Overlords" and they are all white people. Very unhappy white people based on how they are drawn throughout the series.

There is one brief point in The Oath, in which Dr. West actually makes a fair point, which Dr. Strange, apparently, has not reflected upon. In Chapter 4, Dr. West states, "...THINK. If you wipe out every last health problem in one fell swoop, our world will be stripped bare by over-population." Maybe, and maybe not. But it is something to think about. Isn't it?

According to Brian Vaughn, it isn't. Thinking and Liberalism just don't seem to go together.

Death of Capt. America

Forgive me for not getting worked up about the death of Steve Rogers, aka Captain America. I didn't much care for what Marvel was doing with him in the Civil War series, making him sound more like a "I support the troops, but oppose the war" Liberal than a soldier who fought Nazis during WWII and Communists during the late 40s and 50s (yes, folks, there was a time when comic book writers thought Communism was evil).

This character's death is getting as much attention as DC's Death of Superman. CNN has given time to this story. The most interesting line in CNN's report is from one of Capt. America's original creators, the writer Joe Simon.

The character's death came as a blow to co-creator Simon, the Associated Press reported.
"We really need him now," Simon, 93, told The AP.

It would have been nice if Mr. Simon had elaborated on those 5 words. Maybe he did and the reporter chose not to include it in his story. Perhaps Mr. Simon thinks we need Cap around today to fight the spreading evil of Islamofascism. If he does then he stands in stark contrast Marvel's writers and what they have been doing with Cap lately, especially in the Civil War run.

Then again it would be kind of tough for Cap to fight an evil that Marvel refuses to recognize in its books. In all the Civil War titles I purchased (and there were quite a lot, let me tell you), there was not one mention of Islamofascist terrorism. Doing so, however, would have put a terrible crimp in a storyline that made the American government out to be the bad guy. It's difficult, to say the least, maintaining the idea that guys trying to enforce a democratically passed law are evil while at the same time Islamist radicals are strapping bombs to themselves in order to kill infidel Christians, Jews and anyone else who gets in the way of bringing the world to its knees before Allah.

I am sorry I missed Capt America Issue #25. The first run of that book is going to be quite valuable, very quickly. Maybe I shouldn't have stopped buying all the Civil War tie in issues, but there were too many of them, I do not have a bottomless wallet and most of them were little more than diatribes on America's evil history. I'll just pick it up on its second printing, which Marvel is sure to do.

I'm much more interested in what is happening with Iron Man now that he has been put in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D.

300

I saw this movie this afternoon. I left the theater proud to be the recipient of the heritage left behind by the 300 Spartans who sacrificed everything in the face of overwhelming odds.

This is a great movie. I am sure to see it at least twice, maybe more, during its theatrical release. Great heroes standing and fighting in the face of great evil, though they know it will cost them their lives. All for freedom, for land and for the families who cannot fight for themselves.

While some reviews have not been kind to it; there are a few who have moved beyond the liberal/lefist nonsense that passes for film criticism these days.

If are one of the few who as not yet seen 300, get over your squeamishness, and get thee to a theater. Pronto.
