Assassination in Pakistan

Are we losing the war against Islamo-Nazism? No. But if we don't exhibit the political will to fight this evil then we just might.

And an element of that political will means that we have to stop dancing around the issue of what must be done to win this war. Andrew McCarthy notes, in his comment about the Benazir Bhutto assassination,

"Jihadists are not going to be wished away, rule-of-lawed into submission, or democratized out of existence. If you really want democracy and the rule of law in places like Pakistan, you need to kill the jihadists first. Or they’ll kill you, just like, today, they killed Benazir Bhutto."

Instead of openly declaring war against the Islamo-Nazi Jihadists our politicians dance around the subject with talk of democratization. This is like talking about negotiation in the midst of the Palestinian war to destroy Israel. Democratization won't work, today, because the people who are popular, in places like Pakistan, are the jihadists. As McCarthy  writes,

"A recent CNN poll showed that 46 percent of Pakistanis approve of Osama bin Laden. ... President George Bush, the face of a campaign to bring democracy ... to the Islamic world, registered nine percent."
...
"Popular elections have not reformed Hamas in Gaza or Hezbollah in Lebanon. Neither will they reform a place where Osama bin Laden wins popular opinion polls and where the would-be reformers are bombed and shot at until they die."

McCarthy goes on:

"Whether we get round to admitting it or not, in Pakistan [in Gaza, in Lebanon, in etc.], our quarrel is with the people. Their struggle, literally, is jihad. For them, freedom would mean institutionalizing the tyranny of Islamic fundamentalism."

Did we pretend that we weren't at war with Germans or Japanese during WWII? I don't think so. So why now do we pretend that we are not at war with the people who show so so overwhelmingly support Islamo-Nazi Jihadist regimes?

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

I think I'm one of the few that actually enjoyed the first Hellboy movie, and I'm looking forward to the next chapter - The Golden Army.

RottenTomatoes.com has a teaser trailer up, available here.

One thing that jumped out at me is that the Commie apologist Del Toro (hey, no one's perfect) has added another B.P.R.D. character to the trio of Hellboy, Abe Sapien and Liz. Look closely and you will catch a glimpse of Johann, the disembodied spirit existing on our earthly plane in a modified diver's rig.

I'm excited.

Liberal Fascism

My Christmas was small and quiet. Just the wife and I at our new home in Seattle. My 'Christmas booty' didn't come anywhere near the take Dirty Harry, at Libertas, describes. In fact it amounted to socks, a calendar and a B&N gift card, all of which I am very happy with, especially the latter.

Why am I so enamored with a B&N gift card?

Because it means that I can buy Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Fascism when it hits the shelves. What self-respecting conservative isn't drawn to this:

"Fascism was an international movement that appeared in different forms in different countries, depending on the vagaries of national culture and temperament. In Germany, fascism appeared as genocidal racist nationalism. In America, it took a “friendlier,” more liberal form. The modern heirs of this “friendly fascist” tradition include the New York Times, the Democratic Party, the Ivy League professoriate, and the liberals of Hollywood. The quintessential Liberal Fascist isn't an SS storm trooper; it is a female grade school teacher with an education degree from Brown or Swarthmore." (Emphasis added)

I am surrounded by Liberal Fascists, living in Seattle. But to them, I, the white male, heterosexual, socially and fiscally conservative religious Christian, am the evil one.

Merry Christmas

and a very Happy New Year to any and all who happen to pass by my little corner of the internet.

It is going to be a quite day around my house. All of my family is in Denver, CO and my wife's family is in Athens, Greece. That and the fact that I only have a single day off, like so many other Americans who work through the Christmas season, makes for a rather somber holiday.

We'll make the best of it. I'm going to swear off snarky blog posts, in honor of the birth of Christ. Nothing but humorous or positive posts. At least until Boxing Day.

Take care.

I'm a 'Major Sci Fi Geek"

According to the Sci Fi Sound Quiz, that is. However, I only scored a mere 78. Perhaps you could do better. Good luck.

Driving while Cell Phone

California and Washington laws go into force in 2008 making it a crime to drive and use a non-hands free cell phone.

Now that the Nanny State has stuck it's camel's nose into our privately owned cars, trucks and SUVs, legislators are looking at what else can be banned while driving. Potential laws are being evaluated by Safest, Safer, etc. Here's what they've come up with so far:

Safest
Private ownership of vehicles to be forbidden. Anyone caught talking to a bus driver or other public transportation operator will be banned from all public transportation for life. Sneaker subsidies shall be made available for low income pedestrians. (In other news, Skechers & Nike stock value hit an all time high.)

Safer
No drinking, no eating, no applying make up, no shaving, no talking to passengers, no fiddling with the radio, CD or MP3 player, no steering with your knees and definitely no reading. All sources of disctraction are forbidden. Violaters will have all driving privileges revoked for life. The government has determined that the safest form of private transportation, if one must drive, should go no faster than 40 miles per hour.

In response automakers shall go back to the good old days when a stylish SUV looked something like this.

Safe
Nanny state legislatures have resolved that anything less than ‘Safer’ isn’t safe at all.

Stanford = Hogwarts?

You know it had to happen. A college student can take courses in comic books and adult themed cinema, so why not Harry Potter?

Stanford University' Student Initiated Courses now offers a Harry Potter class. I hope parents who are dumping $11,600 for one year's tuition, not counting room, board and parties, think they're getting their money's worth with this stuff.

I, for one enjoyed the J. K. Rowling's books, but like Stefan Beck, at The New Criterion's blog Armavirumque, I don't think they have any place at an institution like Stanford.

Thor saves Africa ... sort of

The Liberal world-view is always good for a laugh or two. J. Michael Straczynski gives us a chuckle or two in the fourth issue of Marvel's Thor as the Asgardian hero journeys to Africa in order to save it from ... well, itself, it seems.

In this issue, titled "No Borders", Thor, in his human persona Dr. Donald Blake, is pulled out of the little Oklahoma hotel he's living in by Dr. Ernest Lereaux, a French doctor from 'Doctors without Borders'. Africa, it seems, is in dire need and Dr. Blake is the one to save the day.

The Doctor's without Borders group arrives at the Umeme Mungu Refugee Camp, in Dahran, Africa a massive field of misery, disease and death, created by "a genocidal campaign of ethnic cleansing designed by the majority Ngare tribe ..." All this, naturally, is meant to bring to mind a very real place in Africa where a very real genocidal campaign in currently underway.

The first bit of Liberal dogma that rears its ugly head is a walk and talk Dr. Blake has with Dr. Lereaux:

Dr. Lereaux, "... the Ngare were content to do their killing with the traditional tools of machete, knife and rifle. From what I am hearing now, they have graduated to mortars and shoulder-mounted rockets and bombs purchased illegally from other countries. ..."
Dr. Blake, "So is the U.N. going to interevene?"

All good Liiberals know that if you want a genocide brought to an end you call in the United Nations becaue that organization did such a bang up job in Rwanda, and elsewhere.

The dialog continues:

Dr. L, "One day they say yes, another no. Some governments want to arm the other tribes. they say that is the solution: Give those who are being killed the power to do back in equal measure what is done to them."
Dr. B, "If not that, then what is the solution?"
Dr. L, "Common sense, compassion. An act of God, perhaps."

Spoken like a true Frenchman. No military intervention, not a call for the US Marines. No. None of that. "Common sense" and "compassion". That will bring and end to genocide. And that has worked where, exactly?

Moments after this bit of Liberal tripe we are introduced to the 3 guards, a German, an American (if, that is, someone from San Francisco still qualifies as an American) and a Brit, tasked with keeping the camp safe. No sooner do we meet this three man international force than the camp comes under attack. Luckily for the camp the guards' common sense tells them to use guns. Also luckily for the camp Dr. Blake's alter ego is Thor, since the meager trio of armed guards is quickly overwhelmed.

Fighting ensues, and lives are saved from the forces of evil. With the battle over we learn that the trio of men with common sense are no mere mortals. They, also are Asgardian warriors, Fandral, Volstagg, and Hogun - the "Warriors Three" - for whom Thor has been searching.

Just as this foursome of Norse gods is about to follow the retreating bad guys, Ibo Abua, the leader of the Mangetu tribe, the people huddling in fear in the refugee camp, appears. Once again we get a load of Liberal gobbledy-gook on war, peace and race relations:

Ibo, "There is no purpose to be served by pursuing them. ..."
Thor, "But will they not return another day?" [A most reasonable question]
Ibo, "Almost certainly. And if you kill them all their brothers and fathers willcome another day, even more determined. And if you kill them all, then we commit the same genocide we are trying to escape ourselves.
Volstagg, "But there must be something strong arms can do!"
Ibo, "Strong arms, perhaps ... but not white arms."

Perhaps someone can explain to me why, in the Liberal world-view, this isn't considered racist.

Instead of chasing down the evil-doers, the very white Norse gods do what all Liberals do when two groups are fighting: They simply separate them. Thor, with his mighty hammer, cleaves a massive canyon into the African countryside; with the Mangetu tribe on one side and the Ngare tribe on the other.

I expected a hefty bit of America bashing when I heard that Doctors without Borders was going to make it into a Straczynski penned Thor tale, but it wasn't there. I will hand J. Michael that much. He does, however, fill this a mere 32 pages with loads of Liberal nonsense. As the character Ibo says toward the end, "It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen." Parents beware.

The Conscientous Objector

In 2004 Hollywood found a film about a Medal of Honor awardee whose story was worthy of, at least minor, distribution. The Conscientious Objector is about a truly  heroic individual, Desmond Doss, who fearlessly served, as medic, the men of the 77th Infantry Division.

I am writing about it because I what I believe may have motivated the decision to honor Mr. Doss, who passed away on March 23, 2006. The film's trailer emphasizes that Doss served during WWII, refused to carry a gun on religious grounds and was mocked by his fellow soldiers and that the Army tried to force him out. But Doss was steadfast in his faith and love of country. He refused to take what would have been an easy road. He wanted to serve America in the military but he would not do so in such a capacity that he might have to kill a man.

I think Desmond Doss's stand is very honorable. He deserves to be honored. However, it was not men like Desmond Doss who won WWII or any war for that matter. It was men bravely  shouldered the responsibility of using violent force in order to confront evil.

I also wonder if the filmmakers behind this worthy work would be as willing to make a film about someone like Sergeant First Class Paul Ray Smith, the first Medal of Honor winner who gave the last full measure of devotion while serving on the Iraqi Front in the war against Islamo-Nazism. I would be willing to bet that they don't even know who Sgt. Smith is.

Media Bias - A Picture's worth ...

We all know how Liberal bias creeps into the report. Have you noticed how this creeps into what pictures they  choose to use?

Here's what AP thought were worthy shots to be the included as the Pictures of the Day for December 9th:

The ever so debonair George Clooney.
The classic beauty  of Sharon Stone.

And then there is Rudy Giuliani.

Tell me again how there's no such thing as Liberal bias in the media.

Liberal Media Bias Example 9159854849815

Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani have all made trips to Seattle. When B. Hussein Obama makes his way into the great Northwest, Seattle's paper of record, the Post-Intelligencer treat him to front page articles above and below the fold and massive eye-catching photos.

Furthermore, the Seattle P-I articles on Huckabee and Romney lead with the fact that the trips were made to raise money for their campaigns. The article on Romney this is made clear in the headline: "Romney rules in raising money in state." The Giuliani visit didn't even warrant an article in the Seattle P-I, at least not one I could find during my brief online search.

The Obama article downplays the fact that his trip was also nothing more than a fundraiser. Instead you get paragraphs like this:

"Obama's backers began lining up for the fundraiser billed as part concert, part "Generation Obama" rally well before doors opened at about 7:30 p.m. at the concert venue Showbox Sodo. ... The event opened with a concert featuring Brad -- Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard's side project -- and Seattle rockabilly band The Dusty 45s."

It's not really a fundraiser. It's more of a "concert" and "rally" for the Obama faithful.

Life in Seattle, Pt. III

If a homeless guy is defecating in front of our business or setting up his Tent City down the street from your child's school don't you dare try and do anything about it. You could very well find yourself facing fines or jail time in Seattle. When it comes to coddling the homeless San Francisco has nothing on Seattle.

Political indoctrination passing as education

On November 16th 125 students and 6 teachers walked out of their publicly  funded classrooms in Tukwillla, WA to protest the President Bush and the American military's presence on the Iraqi front in the war against Islamo-Nazism. And the administrators refuse to take action.

One of the teachers involved was given a paid vacation for taking part in the protest: "... one teacher who left the school with students during the walkout was put on paid administrative leave ... for violating his contractual agreement ..." I imagine the other Leftist Indoctrinators ... uh, I mean "teachers" wish they had that kind of contract.

Protest the President then go on vacation. What a tough job these "teachers" have.

Colorado Shootings

Some thoughts about the murders at the New Life Church and missionary training center in Colorado.

One: The Main Scream Media continues the foolish error of counting the murderer among the dead. Listening to reports I hear over and over again "five dead including the gunman." This, of course, blurs the line between victim and murderer.

Two: The murderer was shot by an armed security guard at the New Life Church in If only  an arrmed citizen or security guard was present at the "gun free" mall in Omaha; a few lives may have been saved.

Three: Will the person who attacked the missionary training center, if it is not the same person who attacked the New Life Church, be charged with a "hate crime" on top of other charges? I'm not counting on it, but if this was an attack on an abortion clinic or mosque or historically black church I have little doubt we'd be hearing about America's epidemic of hate.

Just another day in a Worker's Paradise

On a recent journalism fellowship trip to the North Korean 'Worker's Paradise', Paul Feldman noted the surprising lack of propaganda. In fact, he writes, "there is virtually no political proselytizing at Mt. Kumgang [resort]".

As you read his article, you quickly learn what "virtually no political proselytizing" includes "slogans hailing rulers Kim Jong Il and his late father, Kim Il Sung, carved into the boulders high above the resort", a "large billboard painting of the late Great Leader and the Dear Leader", "waitresses who sport red dresses and tiny Kim Il Sung lapel pins" and who "pick up karaoke microphones and expressively perform ... heartfelt tributes to Kim Jong Il."

Other than that, of course, there was "virtually no political proselytizing".

Furthermore, doesn't anyone find it odd to partake in a "journalism" fellowship within a totalitarian communist state, where Bible's are not allowed in hotels, no interaction with local citizens can take place and even photos of farmers in a field is a criminally  punishable offence? I wonder if Mr. Feldman or anyone else who took part in this event would treat the event's oxymoronic nature as blithely as say an alternative energy fellowship put on by Exxon-Mobile.
