The economy gets personal

I never thought I'd be in this situation. I lost my job in October of 2008 and have been unable to find another position since then.

On Sunday I spent some 10 hours in the sun, developing a righteous sunburn, selling some of my books so I would have enough money to buy my wife some shoes for her birthday.

Conservatives demand a government limited to what the Founding Fathers wrote in the Constitution.. Liberals demand a government that takes from those according to their ability and gives to those according to their need.

While everyone's attention is focused on Washington D.C. our communities are dying.

Just thought I'd let you know.

Beyond the Physical

A day does not go by, lately, that I do not hear someone bemoaning the state of the economy. Lay-offs, downsizing, investments losing upward of 25% their value, blah, blah, blah.

Michael Ledeen tells readers that they should think of the brave Navy SEAL, who put the note below on his hospital room's door, whenever we want to complain about our own aches and pains.

I think you should think of that brave Sailor when you look at the economy and begin a litany of moaning and whining about money.

Push yourself to your absolute physical limit and then push yourself "20% further through sheer mental tenacity". If this man can be this optomistic while he recovers from wounds received on the field of battle, you can do him the honor of being optimistic while you're safe in your own home.

Let your own home be a place of "fun, otpimism, and intense repid regrowth."

Thank you Blackfive for alerting us to this brave American.

The Economy Got You Down? Take a look at this.

Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for day. Teach a man to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime. Lao Tzu
Teach a man to teach his children to fish and he’ll end world hunger. Tim Sales

Are you worried every night about what might happen at the office? Has there been rumors and hints that lay-offs might be coming down the pike? I can tell you that that is exactly what has been happening at my office. One Friday morning I was asked to put together a presentation telling Senior Management why I am a valuable asset to their team. If I can't make this sale, I don't know what will happen. I pray everyday that I will be successful. But, boy, talk about STRESS!

I will confess, to the folks who come by my little corner of the internet, that I came home one day with all this on my shoulders, not knowing what I was going to do; feeling like I might not be able to step up. I literally broke down in tears. After a few moments, with my head in my hands, my wife, however, asked me into her office. She is self-employed and has a home-based business, and asked me to watch a short 20 minute presentation. What the heck, I had nothing to lose. A mere five minutes into the video a light went off above my head. I felt anger and depression I was feeling slip away. I truly and honestly believe that that video has changed my life. Now, I am absolutely excited and enthusiastic about what the future holds in store.

At work I am taking the bull by the horns, doing my research, putting together what I need to in order to keep my family's collective head above water. We are living paycheck to paycheck, and for now that is OK.

I have to decided to start my own business using the products and compensation plan of a company to supplement and eventually replace my current income. The products are products I have been using for the past year and they've been great. But I don't want to focus on that right now.

What I want to focus on is the short video I watched that changed the way I look at the world of business and how I can work and eventually reach my dreams and goals.

I cannot urge you enough to take a look at this video. It is titled "Brilliant Compensation". Please, click the link, get the "ticket", which is really just an email confirming your request to watch it, and spend a few moments. It won't take long. And it might just change the way you look at work. If nothing else, take a look at this and lets start a conversation about how, together, we can help each other reach our goals and dreams.
