It began in
February 2008, but that didn't stop production. Now Fox and Warner may meet in a
Los Angeles federal court in January to settle their legal dispute. Will this stop Watchmen's scheduled March 6th, 2009 release date?
The Democrat Times of New York article (linked above) is fascinating in the behind the scenes glimpse it gives in getting a property like Watchmen turned into film. What struck me is how the project moved from company to company before it finally got made. It started at Fox, then traveled through Largo International, then Universal and Paramount before finally getting made by Warner, with Paramount set to distribute internationally.
So Zack Snyder does what no one else seemed capable of doing, translating this complex book into film, and now it looks like a bunch of suits and lawyers could keep it from being seen by the public.
Cue Ethel Merman -
Ouch, so that's what a
subpoena feels like.
