Micheal Medved's McCain/Feingold defense

"How has that law affected you personally? How? Just tell me how you personally were affected by McCain/Feingold."

That is Michael Medved's constant reply to anyone who dares to point out that John McCain joined ranks with one of the most Left-wing Democrats in the Senate, and drastically undercut American's free speech rights protected by the First Amendment.

Is Medved's response valid? Well, what if we were to turn it back on him. Michael Medved has spoken fondly of the Marriage Amendment and the need to ensure marriage is not redefined to include same-sex unions. But how, exactly, does the marriage of two men or two women affect Michael Medved personally? Will a marriage ceremony between to men men that Michael is going to want to hang out at the gay bars in Seattle's Capital Hill or try to pick up men in Minnesota airport toilets? Will his children decide that they want to marry the same-sex? And if they do, so what? How does his children's decision affect Mr. Medved personally?

Do you see how dishonest that line of questioning is? It is a cheap debaters trick to change the subject; from focus on the topic at hand to focus on the individual making the argument. It is nothing more than argument ad hominem.

Medved steadfastly refuses to honestly deal with any argument against John McCain. Instead he uses any criticism of McCain as a way to dismiss the one making it as "obsessed" and "pathetic".

Michael Medved was tied with Michael Reagan as the 6th most listened to talk radio host in America. After this election he may be lucky if he is anywhere on the list.
